POGGENSEE’S POSTCARDS: “BRR” day in Perry had sun, warm temperatures & lots of smiles

PERRY, Iowa, Feb. 17, 2015 — Photographer Don Poggensee was on hand on Saturday, Feb. 7, for the start of the 38th annual “BRR” — that’s the 24-mile “Bicycle Ride to Rippey” and back — that is sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce.  The ride rolls, no matter the weather, and this year’s event will be remembered as one of the most pleasant.  Temperatures soared to the upper 40s, there was only light wind, most of the riding surface was clear of snow, and more than 2,000 people took part.  BRR has come to be regarded by many as the “official” start of another bicycling season in Iowa, and it certainly is like a wintertime reunion for so many who see each other at other cycling events during the year.  You can see Poggensees photos of some of the fun below here, and you can probably figure out that the grand Hotel Pattee in Perry serves as BRR HQ for the weekend.
